Therapy for
Chronic Illness

A space to be heard and believed.

Coping with chronic illness or disability can turn your world upside down, especially when:

  • You're sick of being ignored or dismissed by medical professionals

  • Your relationships with those closest to you are struggling because of your changing needs

  • You're grieving the life you thought you'd have

  • You feel caught between what your body needs and what that critical voice in your head demands

  • You're tired of being told "but you don't look sick"

It’s a lot right? If you're feeling overwhelmed, you're not alone. Your struggles are valid. You are not lazy or dramatic. Living with a chronic illness or disability takes an emotional toll.

How we can work together

Together, in therapy we can help you cope with chronic illness by:

  • Creating a space where you're truly heard, believed and respected, so that you can build the confidence to advocate for yourself

  • Quiet that harsh inner critic that tells you you’re lazy or not enough

  • Exploring your emotional and physical needs, so that you can start to communicate boundaries and show up in relationships in ways that work for YOU

  • Discovering what brings meaning to your life while accepting necessary compromises, so you can live a life with purpose alongside your chronic condition

I've helped clients navigate anxiety, depression, grief, medical trauma, body image issues, loneliness, and the complex emotions that come with living with a chronic illness or disability. Each person's situation is unique, and so we'll figure out what works for YOU.

My approach is professional but never stuffy...

I'm not your stereotypical therapist. Therapy with me isn't a formal thing like you see on TV. It's a space where you can laugh, cry, swear, and just be yourself, without the need to “I’m fine” over everything.

I work integratively, drawing from different approaches to create something uniquely tailored to you. I'm not here to give you a piece of homework and tell you that you'll feel better. I'm here to hold space for you to process your emotions, understand where your anxiety or low self-worth is coming from, and help you rebuild your relationship with yourself.

But What If You're Not Sure Therapy Is Right for You Right Now?

I get it if you're thinking:

"I barely have energy for daily tasks, let alone therapy sessions"

"Therapy can't make my illness go away, so what's the point?"

"I should be able to handle this on my own"

The thing to remember is that your illness has taken enough from you physically and I can't make that go away, but your mental health doesn't have to suffer too.

Think of therapy as an investment in your emotional wellbeing, like putting money into your pension. You are worth the investment in yourself. Each session is a deposit into building a life where you're not held back by the emotional challenges of chronic illness or disability.
